Manuka Arts Centre consists of three linked buildings adapted for arts use. Officially opened in 1937, it was originally built as the first permanent baby health centre in the Canberra region - the Griffith Child Welfare Centre. The Centre was also formerly the Jazz Campus of the Canberra School of Music. Building B houses PhotoAccess, a Key Arts Organisation that provides courses in photomedia, as well as access to darkroom, computer imaging, and photographic mounting facilities. PhotoAccess also manages a small gallery for the exhibition of members' and visiting artists' work. Building C is being used by ArtSound FM - a community-focussed arts radio organisation. Manuka Arts Centre is located adjacent to Manuka Pool and Telopea Park. It is a short walk from Manuka and Kingston Shopping Centres and Telopea High School. |
